  Solidarity II
Good for Gawker.

Has anyone else noticed that, at least in this country, it's the blogs who are standing up for free speech, while the networks and newspapers have been too intimidated to show the cartoon that's causing all the controvery?

From Mark Steyn's article in yesterday's Chicago Sun Times:

Thus, NBC is celebrating Easter this year with a special edition of the gay sitcom "Will & Grace," in which a Christian conservative cooking-show host, played by the popular singing slattern Britney Spears, offers seasonal recipes -- "Cruci-fixin's." On the other hand, the same network, in its coverage of the global riots over the Danish cartoons, has declined to show any of the offending artwork out of "respect" for the Muslim faith.

Which means out of respect for their ability to locate the executive vice president's home in the suburbs and firebomb his garage.

I agree on "crucifixins": Pretty tacky on NBC's part. Somehow, I wouldn't be bothered by that if it were a real, pointed satire, like something Christopher Durang might do. It's actually more offensive to me when it's just a dumb stunt played for cheap laughs.

I think I saw somewhere that NBC has backed out of the anti-Christian aspect of Britney's appearance, though.

They did. I just liked the punchline in the 2nd paragraph and it wouldn't have made sense without including the 1st paragraph.
